Sat Nov 6 1pm Ebar, $6*
Host: Arlene Slocombe

Sat Nov 6 7pm Norfolk Street United Church

This is a powerful story about the last huge supply of fresh water on the planet: a cinematic investigation of the Great Lakes. Following the path that water travels as it flows from Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean,

McMahon and his team explore lake by lake the characters, culture and impact that these massive bodies support and create. Poignant and spirited observations come from a rainbow of contributors including scientists, fishermen, activists, and cottage-goers.

Filled with gorgeous and crafty camerawork, narrated by The Tragically Hip vocalist Gord Downie, and featuring a fantastic soundtrack, Waterlife is absolutely one of the highlights of the festival.

Pull Quote: “a cinematic poem about the beauty of water and the dangers of taking it for granted.”

Host: Arlene Slocombe
Sat Nov 6 1pm Ebar

Arlene Slocombe was born and raised in Guelph Ontario. She has had a long interest and passion about water issues and is currently the Executive Director of Wellington Water Watchers, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection, restoration and conservation of drinking water in Guelph and Wellington County.

Formative experiences in Arlene's life involved canoeing, kayaking and hiking trips in many of Ontario's wilderness areas. She also spent several of her younger wayward years traveling abroad, and through both these lens learned to question a great many of our culture's standards and perspectives. Arlene's passion is in being connected with the land and waters we live on. She feels a desire to encourage others to develop a strong relationship with our local waters in order to foster a deeper care about protection and conservation.

She has taken this interest very personally and lives with her 2 1/2 yr old daughter and partner in a yurt with no running water or hydro. For three seasons of the year, daily water is collected in rain barrels. During the winter when the barrels are frozen, water is carried in buckets from the Eramosa River. Life is simple and sweet in the yurt and Arlene believes strongly that her deep concern about our local water supply comes from this close relationship with it. Arlene hopes to be able to draw out a similar passion and connection from others as fellow citizens of this magnificent watershed.
